It works best when you secure the edges, using golf ties in each corner, to hold the mat down. When hitting off of the mat, the user stands on the normal ground at address. **Q: Is the a replacement mat available when this wears down?** A: Mine ripped up at the front end and I had to Gorilla glue it down. Other than that it's okay. I have a tendantcy to take big divots when I play so I abuse this device more than others. **Q: How thick is the mat?** A: Matt is about 1/2 inch thick and cover is over that. Cover is fairly strong.
