Review: Great marking pencil - Great for marking dark surfaces such as metal, etc. The pencil and lead are both made in Japan.
Review: Accurate, easy to draw lines - Loving this thing so far, eons better than soapstone, especially because it can ride on my arm on my weld jacket. The lines are very clear, precise, and easy to see, and have no visible smudging. They don't burn away. One thing of note: if using on already hot steel, apply LIGHT pressure, and travel quicker than you would on cold steel. it still draws good lines, but you will end up using more of the pen than you needed. you only need to press lightly when it is hot.

**Q: Does it illuminate when performing SMAW stick welding?  Tried soapstone, but it vaporizes and diffucult to see.**
A: The line will not illuminate but it's silver line will be easier to see, and does not vaporize until you are over it with your puddle. You may want to use a thick line, depending on the color of the material you are welding.

**Q: Where do you reckon this here marking device is made?**
A: Refills made in Japan
Holder made in China…
But good news, assembled in the good old USA….too bad we can’t make anything anymore.

Why did I wait so long to purchase this oh so useful tool! The softer silver lead leaves its mark on metal wet or dry. Thin design makes it easy to mark those tight areas. Just don't leave it close to your work. It's plastic it will melt. DUH Dedicated spot for it on my welding cart. Purchased extra refills I'm going to need those. Highly recommend.
