If you have thick straight (asian etc) hair then you can put the heat all the way up (200) but I typically set mine to 180-190. The curls will fall softly throughout the day and the next day my hair will look like I've gotten a blowout. If the ends of your hair are fine it will be hard for the iron to hold as it's very soft. I curl the ends in first all over then go back and curl up the mid shafts and it turns out very pretty. If your hair is shoulder length or above and you want smaller curls I would get the smaller size that's purple. I will eventually be buying this in all the sizes and maybe even backups to use in the salon.
