I paired this kit with tons of books from the library and as we are out in the world we notice an discuss. I look for ways to ask my child more quesitons and we spend a moment before each experiment asking what might happen and why/how. She is 5 but we have been doing kits like this since she was 3. True, you can gather these items for less- maybe. You'll need to spend gas driving around and you only need what is provided- not a 6 pack as they are often sold in. Here you just get to sit down and have fun learning together. The directions are clear though I would like to see more prompts for questions to ask, names of theories/laws, etc. and the writing is a bit dry where it could be written a bit more...interesting.
