I bet the UPS guys had some fun with this, however the item came undamaged so no harm done. There was a factory defect of excess burrs of metal at the backside of the tip of the blade. I quickly filed them off and filed the back of the whole blade flat since it wasn't completely flat. A little elbow grease and some bicycle handelbar tape around the grip makes this a useful blade for chopping through growth, and obviously for defense. The blade might seem a bit flimsy at first but it's solid(I've nicked a few walls without any bends). The leverage I can get off by setting my hands 1/4 way down the grip is amazing, and after practicing for a bit it's pretty easy to land a single handed home run swing on a thrown piece of fruit. This sword isn't for anyone with weak wrists since you have to balance the blade a bit more than a regular katana or shortsword with a closer center of gravity to your body. The light and strong build Cold Steal designed this machete for make this sword a cheap price tag with exceptional quality. I would reccomend this for any sword nutjob like myself. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ the best two handed machete cold steel make *by Z***R on April 9, 2013* i did a review of it on youtube under MrZombiehunter88 review and test cuts of cold steel two handed katana macheteWell I was looking at getting at getting the 1065 crabon steel Wakizashi for heavy cutting but I got cheap and got the cold steel two handed katana machete. overall this is a good weapon but all those that said(on youtube like zombie go boom) it as good as a battle ready katana(they start at 40+ and go up) it really not. the cold steel two handed katana machete is in the same class as the Chinese dadao and German großes Messer that it's not a sophisticated sword but an agricultural tool that wield by people of larger stature and physical strength it can give you considerable slashing and chopping power. the blade kind of light and thin so it take a little more force then a Wakizashi to cut things.it come ok sharp but to get the most fun out of it you have to sharpen it. it really easy to sharpen and i used a very cheap Aluminum Oxide 2 Sided stone (one side is really coarse grit and other side is a little finer grit) to sharpen it and if you have sharpen a machete before then you know how to sharpen this. I spent about 30 mins sharping (10 passes on the coarse and 30 on the fine side) and it got really sharp. the blade has a black baked-on coating but comes off just a little everytime you use or clean it but even after heavy use the balde is still black,I guess it just the extra piant comeing. It's also really easy to throw like a spear if that what you want. the tip on this weapon penetrates most targets like a spear so i guess it a tanto spear point. One last thing on the blade is that it's very durable and will not bend at all (i tried to bend it and even with my full body weight into i could not. I am 165 LB).The handle, which said cold steel on it and has a lanyard hole on the bottom, is very long and give this weapon a weird feel when you use it. It feels like it should be a long weapon or like you are useing a pole arm like a scythe or a nagamaki. Some people say the handle on it is too smooth and plain and on the point of being plain it is but it's really not all that smooth. I used it a lot and had no problems with it but i did add some black electrical tape for extra grip were i grip it at and add some pink shoe strings on the top grip because i liked the look. also unlike the other cold steel 2 handed machete it has a cross guard so your hand will not ride up on the blade when useing it and make it look cooler.Now when it come it ok sharp but after a few use it needs sharping and after you sharpen it the 1st time you get a real machete sword. I used it on wood both hard and soft, 1gal milk and hard High C jugs, and just about every target i could find. It well balance for one handed use but it works best with 2 hands. I not sure if i left anything out but if i did just ask.to sum it: it's not a katana or a Wakizashi and on it size it falls closer to a CHISA KATANA and because of its long handled you have to wear this thing across your back. To me it's the best pick of all the cold steel 2 handed machetes and makes a cool machete sword. I like short swords and it does everything a better sword could do but it's so long!! I love short swords and that what I am used to using, something that i could carry on my belt. If the zombies did come yeah i would pick this as my back sword but i would grab my other short sword for my belt.i give it the princess luna seal of approvalwhat i did not like was it does not come with a sheath(i use a baseball bat bag), it longer then a short sword,it's kind of dull when it comes, the cold steel video make you think it can really cut like that out of the box and it's light wieght means it takes more power to make hard cuts. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best product available at this price *by A***S on May 13, 2011* I love my new Cold Steel Two Handed Katana Machete. Untill you hold it in your hands, you do not realize how effective this weapon can be. Its long handle allows you to generate great amounts of force that will cut thru whatever stands in your way.The blade needed no sharpening or touching up, like some blades I have ordered from other places before. The medium carbon steel blade is easy to resharpen if you have a mishap and hit stone or bone. I can't wait for the sheath to arrive. It is sold seperately, but at a reasonable price. The sheath is also a back mount type. It would be a chore I believe to try and carry this item on your side.The balance is very good on this tool also. Almost dead center of the overall length. I did wrap the handle in sports tape due to the sleek molded plastic handle. The handle is durable, but if wet could become a little slippery.I purchased this item specificly as an apocalyptic tool and am very satisfied. I have become a big fan of the Cold Steel product line.
