If not supplied, what is the best liquid to use?** A: It doesn't come with calibrating solution, you can use extra virgin oil or honey sample which the honey Moisture is already known as calibrating solution, see which one is easier to get. And the calibration instructions will show you how to calibrate it. **Q: Is this a regular refractometer I can use for other purposes or somehow specific for honey?** A: I suppose it depends on what the other purposes are. There are 3 scales: BRIX % 58-90, Water % 10-33, Degrees Be' 38-43. This refract. is inexpensive and targeted at for honey - but if the other scales are right for your other uses, I'd try it, but double check the results. I have a much more expensive refract I use for brewing. I bought the honey refract. because it has the honey moisture scale and was inexpensive so I could take it to the field and not worry about it. **Q: What is the accuracy? A more expensive model claims accuracy within .2 degrees; this looks difficult to take a reading more than one degree apart.** A: I would say a half a percentage is accurate. I checked it with olive oil and a store bought honey bottle. If I'm that close on moisture I'm just going to recycle it through the hive again. **Q: If i use extra virgin olive oil what should the brix scale be on** A: About 27.
