My husband was the same way. However, his cheap case started to break the backing of his phone. It caused chips to appear around the corners and the pen insert. I wanted this for myself and was hoping to trade my black back for this one. He didn't go for it. Too bad for me.The texture is leathery and you'd like it. The colors are a little faded, but I suspect this is not a design flaw and intentional. I feel like it's supposed to be rustic (there's a specific word for it but it escapes me for now).
