Would be awesome for watching chicks develop inside the eggs, but we don't plan on adding to our flock anytime soon- so this will be used mainly for freshness checks. It's easy to use, comes with multiple sized bases to fit different sized shells and the egg balances perfectly on the base. The light works great to illuminate the entire contents of the egg and has brought us peace of mind a few times when cracking open eggs for an omelet and discovering a 'bad' egg before cracking it open to contaminate the entire bowl. Overall, a great light for a great purpose- actually got it for the hubby for christmas and he was thrilled to have it, so it also makes a nice gift for those with birds.

A: The big rubber one is for candling chicken eggs & the little rubber one is for candling small eggs like cocktail eggs . They just go onto the end of the candler.
