Review: Shields are easy to use. This one is a good quality shield. I used it with some of the Arduino how to books. I have personally moved away from shields and uno boards altogether. I buy the atmega chips now and breadboard them into my projects. I still use the uno board to get the project working, but then move everything over to a breadboard when I am finished. It is a lot cheaper that way. For easy of use the uno boards and shields are the way to go. If you get comfortable with soldering and creating your own circuit boards, you can save money buying just the needed components. If you put a value on your time, you may want to stick to shields. They are much easier to work with. I purchased another one at Radio Shack made by SeedStudios, and it worked. The SMD is most likely a EEPROM if I had to guess. Sorry I cannot provide more information. Since that time I have moved on to Teensy 3.1 and LC's (ARM) and use a Wiznet module I purchased from Mouser for IP based connectivity. If you need more horsepower I recommend https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/teensy31.html , great forums and better product. **Q: Will this ethernet shield work with the Arduino Due?** A: I don't know, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't. The pin configuration is the same as an arduino r3 for all the pins that are important to the shield. However, if you are planning to use the lcd board, it has problems with the Ethernet shield. **Q: Can this shield connect to your home network wirelessly, or do you need to plug in an ethernet cable to the board?** A: No, it's an Ethernet sheild. You need to plug it in to an Ethernet socket. They make wireless shields though. They will have antennas. Sometimes you can get two different frequency bands for better range it requires multiple antennas. **Q: is this compatable with arduino uno Rev 3?** A: I have it on a Sainsmart UNO R3 clone and it is working well.
