Review: Best Pool Torpedo, hands down - I bought a couple pool torpedos for use in my neighborhood pool, and this is the only one that performed as advertised. I was trying to find the closest item to the toypedo that I used as a kid in the 90s. I bought the shark-shaped “torpedo” from Dicks Sporting goods, and that thing was absolute trash. It wasn’t a solid piece, and the fins on it made it fly terribly through the water. It would basically instantly surface after a throw and then immediately nose dive to the bottom. It went maybe 6ft, and was advertised at 30-ish Ft. I also tried the mini torpedos from desertcart, but those just didn’t have the heft of the original toypedo. This UTL torpedo is solid rubber and is the closest thing to the original toypedo that I could find for a reasonable price. The original toypedos can be found on eBay for like $200 as of this writing. The UTL torpedo flies easily 10-15ft with minimal athleticism involved. I haven’t measured the max distance that I’ve thrown it, but I would estimate it at 25-30ft. It needs to be thrown kind of like throwing a football spiral. The only con with this torpedo is that it is designed for right-handers. The fins force the torpedo to spin in a single direction. If you try to throw it like a football with your left hand, it will begin its rotation in that direction, stall while in flight, then switch its rotation. It was weird seeing that the first time. Lefties can still underhand throw this torpedo to some distance though. With all of that said, every person that has played with this torpedo has had a lot of fun, lefties and righties alike. We usually just play catch with it, but it’s also good for some monkey-in-the-middle. I would highly recommend this for adults and children to add a different level of fun to their swimming activities. PROS Similar to 90s toypedo Solid rubber, very durable Flies the greatest distance underwater compared to other torpedos on the market Cheaper than buying a 90s toypedo from eBay CONS Still it’s $40. Worth the price to me Not optimized for left-handed people Does not go the advertised 40ft in a 3-5ft deep pool. Still travels a good distance though. Review: Works great and goes fast! - My 9 year old son absolutely loved it. Countless hours (lol) of entertainment in the pool. The torpedo works great and goes surprisingly fast! ## Features - Official size glider for UTL games - 11 oz rubber for longer glides ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B09594RFLW | | Age Range Description | Kid | | Best Sellers Rank | #121,406 in Toys & Games ( See Top 100 in Toys & Games ) #123 in Swimming Pool Dive Toys | | Brand Name | Underwater Torpedo League | | Color | Green | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 518 Reviews | | Educational Objective | Color Recognition | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Outdoor | | Item Dimensions | 5.12 x 2.36 x 2.76 inches | | Item Weight | 11 ounces | | Manufacturer | Underwater Torpedo League | | Manufacturer Part Number | div22 | | Material Type | Rubber | | Model Number | div22 | | Number of Players | 1 | | Operation Mode | Manual | | Power Source | manual winding | | Size | Medium | | Supported Battery Types | No batteries required | | Theme | Cartoon | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Images ![Official (UTL) Torpedo Glider Diving Toy Rocket Summer Camouflage Design 10" - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61MPWUUvEmS.jpg) ![Official (UTL) Torpedo Glider Diving Toy Rocket Summer Camouflage Design 10" - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61iUyRH22XS.jpg) ![Official (UTL) Torpedo Glider Diving Toy Rocket Summer Camouflage Design 10" - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71hNElhp+QL.jpg) ![Official (UTL) Torpedo Glider Diving Toy Rocket Summer Camouflage Design 10" - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71kTe+RXDxL.jpg) ![Official (UTL) Torpedo Glider Diving Toy Rocket Summer Camouflage Design 10" - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61+3fKaGF5L.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Pool Torpedo, hands down *by A***S on August 24, 2022* I bought a couple pool torpedos for use in my neighborhood pool, and this is the only one that performed as advertised.
