The ones I got were 7 1/2" long making them ideal for textbooks and other larger books. There used to be shorter ones on the market but I didn't look for them this time around. This was such a bargain I just trimmed 3 to the width I needed. You should also consider the See-N-Read book-size cards. I purchased a 3 pack and they are somewhat different. They are a translucent gray plastic card measuring 5.5" x 3" and while the reading window is narrower at 1/4" they are easy to hold and move in lots of everyday books. Using them in textbooks would be difficult. Both products are terrific at what they do. **Q: Do these come as the color assortment shown in the picture, or are they more randomized?** A: They come in the exact same colors as seen in the photo. Some of the colors are clearer than others to see through but my students with vision difficulties and ADHD enjoy the options and have figured out what colors work best for them. They come with one handy little case to slide them all into. It was a great buy! They are a nice length for textbooks for any age reader;>) Having the variety is terrific and while I don't use all the colors, the kids scarfed up the red, purple and blue ones before I could blink. Gotta say, the case is handy and makes these safely portable in a backpack/briefcase in a medium pocket or flat.
