The lead from the pump to the solar panel is long enough to go from the water feature and then be attached to the top of a 6ft fence to capture more of the sun. Obviously if the sun isn't hitting the panel then the pump won't work as there isn't a battery back up. But for the price I thought it was better than I was expecting. Ideal for a small water feature or bird bath. I'll be amazed if I keep this one that long as the performance is really poor; unless the tiny solar panel (about a quarter of the size of other ones I've had) is in DIRECT sun it won't do anything. It's 33° today and anything other than direct sun is insufficient, this will be useless in the spring, autumn and winter. The panel comes with no bracket either so you can't angle it.
