## Description

The Umami Micom Rice Cooker & Warmer comes with Zojirushi's Umami setting that soaks and steams the rice longer for enhanced flavor. It also has a Slow Cook function that allows the rice cooker to work like a slow cooker. New and convenient Jasmine rice, quick Jasmine rice, and congee menu settings have been added. The non-stick coated inner cooking pan and the detachable and washable inner lid are both easy-to-clean. Power cord is detachable. All areas that come into contact with food or beverage are BPA-free.

Review: Versatile rice cooker without breaking the bank - Great all around rice cooker. I picked this one primarily since it had the GABA brown rice and steam functions, aside form the standard options. The GABA brown rice apparently makes brown rice even healthier, and it does result in softer, fluffier brown rice. The steam function has worked great to steam a small serving of dumplings or veggies in a pinch without having to use the stove. I've also made congee and used the porridge function to make steel-cut oats. Very versatile!!

**Q: Glad to see there is no bpa, but is this pfoa-free by any chance?**
A: Thank you for your inquiry. The inner pan has a non-stick coating containing PTFE- a material commonly used for non-stick coating in cookware for conventional kitchen use (FDA approved). **Q: Is Gaba brown rice sold in stores or is it regular brown rice that is affected by cooking?**
A: Just Google it so you don't get answers from people who don't know what they're talking about.

GABA brown rice IS sold in stores (usually as sprouted brown rice/germinated brown rice) but in terms of this machine, it does that for you, and it's regular (any) brown rice that's cooked differently so as to increase its gamma-aminobutyric acid benefits 150%.

Per Zojirushi, "GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, is said to help lower blood pressure and relieve stress. Using the GABA Brown Rice setting activates the GABA in the brown rice by soaking it for two hours at 104°F before cooking."

Also from Zojirushi:

"This is not a new variety of brown rice, but a newly different way of cooking brown rice to "activate" it and increase natural occurring gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an amino acid in brown rice believed to have health giving properties such as lowering blood pressure, improving kidney function and relieving stress. The brown rice is "activated" by soaking it at 104°F for 2 hours before the actual cooking begins."

**Q: There is no dedicated quinoa setting.  What menu to use for making quinoa?**
A: Thank you for your inquiry. In the NL-GAC10, quinoa has been officially tested on the Quick Cooking menu setting. For 1 cup of uncooked quinoa using the measuring cup provided with the unit, we would recommend measuring 1 1/4 cups of water with the same measuring cup. You may need to make adjustments depending on your brand of quinoa and preferred texture. To account for the cooking process, please do not exceed 4 cups of uncooked quinoa.

Makes incredible rice. We originally had an aroma brand rice cooker that was gifted to us, but after having lived in Japan, we knew we wanted a rice cooker that made the same level of quality. It has been so easy to use and clean, and we really love the timer function as we often have some rice with breakfast- we can prepare it before bed and have perfect, fresh rice in the busiest of mornings. It is about the same size as the aroma 10 cup cooker, but I find it's definitely worth the upgrade for the quality you receive. It also looks much nicer than the aroma cooker, so we don't mind it staying out on the counter next to the mixer.
