The dimensions of the part that drops into the floor are roughly 2 1/2" wide, 9 3/4" long. The outside dimensions of the brass cover are 3 5/8" by 11". It drops into the floor about 1.5". Hope that helps. **Q: what is the material?** A: The grille is steel with plated rubbed bronze finished. The damper box is made of plastic. **Q: What is the dimension of the black plastic part that fits into the duct? Home Depot’s dimensions are off on another size. We need correct info.** A: I bought a 4x8, because Lowes did not have that size in a nice looking grate. The plastic part is the part that fits the hole, it's 8"!! The width is the 4!!
