The iron in steel is a natural attractant to odors. That's why stainless bars work to remove odors from your hands. I just brush mine against the steel while I'm washing my pots. The bristles are silicone, which is generally heat resistant to about 450 degrees or so. I'm not sure about what the handle is made out of, so be careful to not rest it against the heating surface.
