It certainly did the job and was a lot easier and did a better job than silver polish. However, it stinks to high heavens - seriously bad odor. And I also didn't like having to tear up the aluminum and try to fit it in the pan and the messy look it had.This plate sits nicely and tidily in the glass baking pan, and after just a few minutes the silverware is sparkling and there is zero odor.As others mentioned, use ceramic or glass, not metal. I used washing soda this time, but I actually do not think it gets different or better results than baking soda. The key is to use boiling water (or at least very hot) to cover the objects to be cleaned, and to have each surface that needs "de-tarnishing" touch the metal.
