I always have it in my house because there is no soap around that will get out blood stains and ground dirt and even grass stains like Kirk's Castile. I scrub Kirk's on the cloth by hand with cold water and rinse with cold water. Repeat if needed. It has always worked for me if I haven't already washed the fabric in a washer and dried it (which usually means the stain is set). As a hard soap, Kirk's makes a good lather and rinses clean. It is not an emollient soap - so if you are looking for a soap that will ease dry skin, this is not it. The advantages of NOT being emollient is that a bar lasts longer, it cleans without excess oils getting in the way of the cleaning process, and, as I wrote, it rinses cleanly with no "soft" residue for babying the skin. But because it is not emollient, this is not a soap if you have dry skin. I've read some unfavorable reviews on this page, and I can understand their frustration. It says right on the wrapper, "Ultra Gentle with No Drying Residue". The 2nd part is absolutely correct. The 1st part isn't, in my opinion, but that's why I LOVE Kirk's Castile. A person may be sensitive to an ingredient in the soap, but maybe there is difference between " hypoallergenic" and "lotion-y" or similar. We use it at the sink, but not in the shower/bath.
