The clear plastic material makes selecting the right drawer a breeze because it's contents are clearly visible. Being able to remove the drawers makes it easy to peruse all the pens in that particular drawer. The sturdy plastic drawers have stops on built into them to keep them from coming all the way out unless you intend to remove the drawers. It's like these Sterilite units were made specifically to house pens for the budding artist as well as the expert artist. My only complaint was that my order contained too many units and I have several more than I needed for my project.
