**Q: Are these bits stainless?**
A: No but then again, stainless steel isn't typically used for the manufacture of such tool. Chrome-plated harden steel may give the appearance of stainless steel. You really don't want stainless steel for such devices due to it being considerably softer than other steels and alloys. Steel alloys containing high amounts of chromium, carbon, and/or titanium make for considerably better tools. Stainless steel is nice for kitchen appliances, eating utensils, decorative trim, and certain hardware.

**Q: What does it mean for soft metal? Something like aluminum or mild steel? How about very hard and dense wood?**
A: Correct, would be fine on all woods aswell

**Q: How can 12 inch bits have product dimensions of 6.1 x 6.1 x 1.4 inches?**
A: They are actually 12inches long, the product dimensions are wrong.

**Q: anyone know of a good American made set?**
A: well I am just finishing a job where we have put in close to a thousand holes and still haven't worn this set out...you want American made be prepare to spend some dollars

I've been working with metal for the better part of 50 years. This NEIKO Bit Set is great I used them so I could use counter sink screws in 3/16" metal (NOT aluminum) Metal Diamond plate. Mighty sharp Like a hot knife through butter. I'm very happy with this purchase. We were putting this metal diamond plate down on the bed of a box truck. About 75 holes before we weld it in. 5 bits come in a little case. It took 2 days to get.......... Thanks for hooking me up Amazon.
