A: My box was pretty thrashed as well. I bought the storage bag with handles Amazon suggested. It made it pretty easily to carefully slide it down the stairs to my basement.

**Q: So how do I plug in the tree so you need a special cord**
A: I did not need a special cord. It plugs into the was socket or you can use an extension cord.  Perhaps I don’t understand your question.
