People have used them on cats successfully but it's not really recommended.Thanks **Q: My dog is a pit bull and has a high tolerance to pain. My current collar's highest setting does not phase her at all. Will this one be strong enough?** A: I'm not sure. I have an 11lb shihtzu so I only have used level one. I mostly use the vibrate or beep button. I will say that the level one vibrate on this collar is much gentler than previous collars I have tried. So I would lean towards no it wouldn't t be strong enough. It has 16 levels. Ones that I have tried before had 100 levels. Maybe try those type instead. The first level one that one was too strong for my shihtzu. **Q: Does the collar works automatically or you have to use the remote controller all the time in order to work?** A: You have to use the remote controller. **Q: I have a deaf puppy so am trying to get her attention when she can't see me, any thoughts?** A: I imagine animals, like people, can be trained to vibration response. The collar does have the vibration setting. Perhaps you could use that setting with tapping your foot to create a vibration the puppy could put with it and then the reward of affection by you? Kind of like playing peekaboo with a baby. The range on this is nice for the price. Its also nice to have the beep function as you can use it as a click trainer!After about a month of use however one of the washers that keeps the collar held against the battery housing fell off at some point during a walk and it didn't come with replacements so the shocker housing would just hang by the one prong, thus making the shock collar not work. I had to put tape around the housing and collar to keep it working. For the price though I am ok with it. Good range and not too harsh if you're on the right setting. My dog responds to a vibration at level 8, and a shock at level 6. He's about 40 pounds, so there's plenty of room for adaptation to heavier / larger dogs.I will note, however, that I falsely assumed that my dog will know what to do when I hit one of the buttons. This device won't magically make your dog know what to do, you have to teach the association between his negative behavior and the correction. Once you begin to teach that association, and that he's getting a buzz when he's done something wrong - the collar works magically.Additionally: I didn't tighten one of the metal contact prongs properly, and it fell off the collar when I was outside training with the dog. I contacted the seller, and they were kind enough to send me a replacement prong and fastener free-of-charge.
