This supplement plus the IC diet has given me my life back. First, I tried fresh marshmallow root from a local health food store. It made my symptoms so much WORSE!! I tried it several times over a couple of weeks, but it still seemed to be making me more inflamed and miserable. I still ordered this supplement from Amazon. I thought, "how could it get any worse?" I was desperate for relief. Within a few days of taking the marshmallow root supplement, I noticed subtle changes. I wasn't going to the bathroom quite as much. I was able to make it to a urology appoint in a town about 2 hours away with only one bathroom stop! After several weeks on the supplement, the change was undeniable. I asked my urologist about marshmallow root and she seemed to support using it! I haven't had to go back to the urology clinic because the marshmallow root is working so well! I've had overactive bladder symptoms since childhood and my symptoms have been controlling my life for 10+ years. I've been on a prescription overactive bladder med for a few years, and it does help some, but I was still in and out of the bathroom all day almost every day with an overwhelming urge. Then the pain came and over several months it grew to be so intense that I felt like I was being stabbed all over my pelvic region. I felt like I had the worse UTI of my life all the time even through my lab work came back negative for a UTI. I finally realized my symptoms were related to foods - coffee, tomatoes, acids, spicy foods, etc, and that I had IC. I now take marshmallow root twice a day - two pills in the morning and two in the evening. Sometimes I take it three times a day. If I miss even one dose, I remember when I end up in and out of the bathroom all night! I used to go to the bathroom several times every night. I can't even estimate how many times it was. But now, I usually only go to the bathroom once a night and sometimes I sleep through the night! My urgency has drastically decreased, although if I eat a trigger food it will return, but with less intensity than before. Most days I have no pain or only mild pain. I only get more intense pain if I eat a trigger food - i.e. coffee. I will warn you that your bladder symptoms may initially get worse after starting this supplement, but should get better with time. Think of putting lotion on severally chapped winter hands. At first it burns, but after several days your hands are smooth and the burning is gone.
