**Q: Would the size1, smallest size, (1 1/16" curved) safety pin work for T Shirt quilts?**
A: For me, No. 1 is way too small.  I now use No 3 curved.   The larger size makes life much easier when basting any size quilt.

**Q: How many pins should I buy to baste a king size quilt?**
A: spaced at 5"-6" you need about 350. you could probably get by with one box. i have bought these specific pins twice. the ones i bought  a couple years ago were fine. the ones i bought in june this year were terrible. the points were not sharp and if you found one you could stab through the quilt, the shanks would not slide smoothly through the layers. i got a refund for them as they cannot be returned (anything that is sharp cannot be returned to amazon).

A quilters handy friend, that's what the durable safety pins are. Their design is perfect for quilt basting to holding up a hem in a pinch. The sharp points go through different fabrics with ease and are the perfect size for many needs. They are sturdy and they shape is easy to use. Compatible with cottons to velvets. Happy I found these great safety pins!

If you've never worked with curved pins, getting the hang of handling them (especially one-handed) can be a trick. These Dritz pins are sturdy, well-made, sharp, and they open and close relatively easily. With the method I initially used for this, I rubbed a blister into one finger that first day (because I basted a crib-sized quilt at 3-inch intervals), but it quickly calloused and was no problem for continuing with the use of these pins. I will probably also get better at using them with time too...so I don't hold this against the pins. :)I think the value was good for what I got, and I'll be using these for many years. It's so nice not to use straight pins any more, as I lap quilt and would end up with a good number of jabs and lost pins before I got these. These curved pins made basting go about twice as fast, because I could essentially "scoop" the pin through the layers, and kept everything in place as I did my rough and fine hoop-based quilting.

I love these pins. I sell my kiddos clothes in a large pop up consignment sale where I have to hang/tag my clothing. These pins are sturdy and I don’t have to worry about them breaking or popping off. They are sharp and easy to apply. I like that they aren’t flimsy, but are thick and have a smooth bend. I will say, it takes a little effort to squeeze and open them so if you have to apply a ton of them, just be aware that these are heavy duty.
