Eliminating using powder solvent, bore butter, oil, etc.** A: You could. However if it were me, I'd get the worst grime removed with non-chlorinated brake cleaner or mineral spirits, much less expensive than Strike Hold.Be prepared to spend some time cleaning a black powder bore with S.H. before you get a clean patch. You'll be amazed at how much grime gets removed.The stuff not only gets dirt off of the surface, it gets dirt out of the porosity of the steel which conditions the metal and makes future cleaning less arduous.My smokeless longarm bores are so well conditioned that 1 MOA from them is routine. It soaks into the metal leaving a dry lube behind. Completely dissipates moisture and destroys rust. It also works as just a good cleaner.
