You'll receive one sheet of styrene in the height and width of your choice. Styrene is white in color, but thin enough to let a lot of diffused light shine through the lamp shade. The sheet has a removable release liner which is peeled off to expose a self-adhesive side of the styrene. Apply your fabric or paper to the adhesive side of the styrene for a smooth, professional look. How much styrene do I need? For drum or cylinder-shaped shades, determine the length of styrene you need for your project by multiplying the desired diameter by pi (3.14) and adding 1 inch. **Q: Can I use this on a more open weave fabric? Like an organza, lace or burlap? Will dust stick to the adhesive?**
A: If you wanted to do something like that, perhaps choose a white or coordinating thin quilting cotton, sew the organza, lace, or burlap to the quilting cotton (around the edge, the size needed for the lampshade), and then adhere the quilting cotton to the styrene. It might be best to stitch exactly the size of the styrene (perhaps trace the styrene on the quilting cotton and stitch along that line; this could be done by hand with a running stitch, using a coordinating thread) to prevent bunching or other similar issues with the materials.

A: I remember that the lampshade material is non-directional. I understand that the length is 16", which means that you need the 17.5 high material. But you didn't say whether the other dimension (also 16") is the diameter or the circumference. Whichever it is, that's the width you need..
