With the brackets fit ?** A: Yes. The brackets can be bolted on vertically or horizontally. Be sure that whatever it's bolted to can support the weight of the jack. **Q: Can this be used to mount to the tailgate (to the right of the spare tire) on a Jeep Wrangler tj?** A: Yes, You can mount it virtually anywhere there is enough room to fit the hijack. It will require drilling holes to mount to the vehicle. I used these on the hood of my YJ. Just line it up to where you want it positioned and mark the holes to drill out. Took about 15-30 minutes to install. Very easy. **Q: How wide is each bracket?** A: 2.5"w X 6.75"l X 3.25"h Bolt hole slots are 1.75" center to center **Q: Is the top of bracket 3 1/2 in or is the top of mounting bolt 3 1/2 ?** A: The bracket is 6 3/4 inch wide where it bolts to the bumper and 2 1/4 inch wide where it bolts to the jack. The height on the bracket it 2 1/2 inches. I don't see any dimension of 3 1/2 inch so I guess I don't understand. I drilled the 8 holes needed for installation in the front bumper, and wiggled my hand up in behind the bumper with an open-ended wrench to get nuts on the end of the bolts, had a helper run a ratchet on the outside of the bumper to tighten the bolts down, and it was good to go. I like it mounted to the front bumper because it's out of the way and slightly counterbalances any weight I put in the back of the vehicle. It mounts a jack very firmly while still allowing it to be easily removed when needed. I also like that I can put locks on the jack to keep people from stealing it when I'm out in the middle of nowhere. This product works very well for its intended purpose, and can be installed in about 15 minutes depending on where it is mounted.
