A: Signal loss or amplification on a logarithmic scale. Lookup decibel on google. Every 3dB of loss is equivalent to losing half of the signal power (energy over time). An ideal 8 way splitter breaks the signal by a factor of eight which means halving the signal power three times or 9dB. The actual loss is always more the the ideal fugre.
