Before I bought this to give it a try, I of course would put a little oil from a bottle in the pan and use a paper towel to spread it over my Lodge cast iron and carbon steel pans. Sometimes I had too little oil or too much. But with this spray, a quick light spray does just fine. Not too much or too little. Just spray and wipe down with a paper towel. Trust me when I say a little spray. There is no need to try to coat the pan like you would if you were using cooking spray. A quick tap on the nozzle and you're done. Anything over a second of spray time is too much and a waste. OH! I can buy an oil sprayer & use other oil like avocado?** A: The spray is just canola oil, you can use that or abocado if you want, in my opinion uou should only get this kit if you want the brush and scraoer to clean your cast iron, spray is unnecessary. **Q: So what is the 5th piece in this set?** A: I believe they’re referring to the instruction booklet as the fifth piece.
