Review: Si tienes una antena Ubiquiti, Mikrotik o similares, hazle un favor y ponle ésto - Si tienes una antena Ubiquiti o similar en exterior y la instalación está hecha con cable UTP, se trata de una chapuza que te puede dejar frito algún equipo por descarga electrostática (de hecho, me echó a perder dos routers y dos antenas. :) Uno de estos protectores (según Ubiquiti hacen falta dos) se debe colocar junto a la antena, y otro en la pared de entrada del cable a la vivienda o edificio, con el cable que sale del anillo conectado a una toma de tierra, y por supuesto utilizando cable FTP con sus respectivos conectores blindados. Actualización: éste protector es para descargas electrostáticas; si se desea más protección contra rayos cercanos (nunca directos, eso es demasiado xD ) se ha de colocar un supresor de mayor categoría en la entrada, como los de D-Link...pero en España no están disponibles salvo de importación y por el precio que tienen (60€+portes y aduanas) más les vale que funcionen... :P

**Q: What is the difference between this unit and the eth-sp?**
A: The eth-sp2 is an improved version of the original eth-sp.

**Q: Will this protect outdoor CAT5e cable from lightning?**
A: Properly installed these should reduce and in some cases eliminate equipment damage from various high-voltage atmospheric situations including lightning. But lightning and wiring and lightning rods and other protection equipment is complicated and should be properly designed and installed to protect critical systems, and these gas-discharge-based units are one good component in a design. Ubiquiti probably has good design materials. 

These units are an inexpensive way to improve protection, but don't be fooled... Nothing will save typical outdoor WiFi gear from a direct strike, but these can help keep the damage from going further than that.

Be sure to use shielded network cable with shielded connectors and ensure the connectors and cable shield are robustly connected -- sometimes the little ground wires break off.

**Q: Is it 100full or 1g?**
A: The "G2" is 1 Gb

**Q: How do you know when the surge is no longer working?**
A: When it won't pass an Ethernet signal.  The ESP circuit sacrifices it self when it suppresses the surge.
