The hide your key gadget will not normally be fully imersed like your swimming pool idea. That said the cover won't likely leak if only immersed for a few inches. Best idea--tryit--but don't if your key or other item just really shouldn't get soggy at all. The Hideout is not designed for longer term submersion. I've used a hideout for years without a leak when using it as intended.
