**Q: why on earth do they put glucose in this stuff?**
A: Both dextrose and glucose are part of a dual enzyme process

**Q: The information online say for treatment of external ear.  Do you apply this medication inside the ear as well?**
A: In response to your question concerning ZYMOX OTIC HC 1.0% Enzymatic Solution I used on my Labrador Retriever. Here are the directions as written. Shake before each use. Apply liberally to un-cleaned ear, filling ear canal. Gently massage and work into infected area. Wipe to remove excess. Apply once a day for 7 days, 14 days for chronic infections. DO NOT CLEAN EARS BEFORE OR DURING TREATMENTS. I ordered a 4 fluid ounce bottle to get started and have used approx. 3/4 of it with 1/4 left. As mentioned I have always relied on my vet over the years with the her selling me MOMETAMAX to use at $38.87 for a 15g bottle which never seemed to solve the ear issues that would come and go. After our problem was cleared up I use once a week EPI-OTIC EAR CLEANSER which maintains my dogs inner ears and keeps them nice and clean. At first I was a little skeptical that the product would work as advertised along with other comments posted, but all I can say it sure did. Which has brought much needed relief to my canine daughter and she seems so much happier having no more ear irritation. Hope this comment helps in some way.

**Q: First application, his ear seems more red and lots of gunk rising up, is this OK?**
A: I have been using Zymox Otic products for years with our dogs.  It works like gangbusters at getting the impacted debris to break up and work its way out of the ear canal...that’s the brownish-blackish gunk.  When the ears are bad, they can be red from the inflammation, which is why dogs scratch and shake their heads.  It’s painful!  After several days, there should be less gunk coming out and the redness should subside.  Just wipe around the outside of the ear to clean off the wax debris that comes out, but don’t use any other “cleaners” when using Zymox or you risk killing the helpful enzymes.  If the infection is bad, and they often are, follow the directions and use for the 14 day cycle.  Good luck to you and your pup!

**Q: I have a large German Shepard Mix.  What size bottle would you recommend for a two-week treatment? Thank you very much!!**
A: Might as well get the largest one or the size that is most cost efficient. For any external otitis (make sure it’s not mites) this product works very well as long as you follow the instructions as well as follow the course (7 days for small infection, 14 days for more aggressive, as per label). Our Lab is prone to ear infections soon as it gets warm and humid every year and we’ve successfully given her ears relief using this product, plus the big bottle has quite some time before it expires for maintenance and subsequent infections.

In my opinion, Zymox makes the best ear products for dogs. My Shar Pei is prone to ear issues, and Zymox is the gentlest and most effective cleaner. My very floppy eared beagle flipped over her ear and to my horror it was torn up; red, swollen & very irritated. She obviously had an infection and had been scratching at it. I felt terrible I didn’t notice it sooner. I bought the zymox otic because it’s a cleaner and treatment all in one and has hydrocortisone which I knew she needed badly to bring down the swelling from scratching at it. The medicine is a clear watery gel, something I wasn’t expecting. I thought it would just be liquid. The gel works great though because it suspends in place so you can really get to every little fold and crevice inside the dogs ear. I started with the outside of the ear cleaning as I went with cotton balls. Once I had all the little pieces of scab cleaned up I went for the ear canal. It says to fill the ear canal with medicine and then wipe away. I filled it and then massaged the ear to make sure it went deep enough. I then tilted the dogs head the other direction and let it drain out and wipe wipe wipe. The next morning was a big difference!! It was looking a lot better. I was still nervous though what if it didn’t work. When we woke up the 3rd morning I checked her ear and it looked so good I had to do a double take to make sure I had the right ear. I can’t recommend this medicine enough. We are continuing treat. It says 7-14 days but looking at these results I think a week will be plenty. I just wanted to leave this review to help other dog and cat parents. This medicine treats fungal and bacterial infections using 3 types of enzymes so you are good to go using this either way. I highly recommend! Worth every penny! Update* after reading some of the 1 star reviews I just wanted to add that it is always best to have your animal evaluated by a veterinarian. Some animals may need an antibiotics to treat an ear infection and this treatment may not be enough. Also if you see that your animal is suffering from any adverse reactions it is best to stop the medicine and have them evaluated medically immediately. Just like with humans, some medicines can have side effects that can be severe. Not all medicines work for everybody or everything 100% of the time. People and animals alike can be allergic to certain ingredients. It is best to closely monitor your animal whenever they are taking a new medication whether prescribed by a vet or bought over the counter and even when it’s something as simple as a topical medication. This medication worked great for my pet but I do check my dogs ears weekly because she’s a floppy eared breed. More than likely I caught the infection very early when she was symptomatic for only a couple of days. This may have contributed to how successful the results were for my dog. On day 4 now and all symptoms are gone, however I will continue to monitor the ear for up to 4 weeks to make sure the infection doesn’t reoccur. I’m very sorry to the pet owners who had adverse reactions to this medicine and that you didn’t share the same experience myself and many others had with this efficacy of how well this product worked. Your reviews are the reason that I felt it necessary to remind people that medical intervention first is always best.
