Stainless steal and a kind of tough plastic.A must to have, it really inproved my espressos. good deal.. two pieces in one. distrbutor-lever and tamper. Just be carfull with one thing, You can adjust the heigh of both elements (lever and tamper) but you have a limit. So it works fine basiclly if you are putting almost the full amount of coffee of what the filter is made of. It is of all metal construction and heavy weight to aid tamping. It allows you to control the amount of tamping by adjusting the metal collar. After tightening it stays in place allowing reproducible results.In order to use it, place the required amount of coffee in your portafilter. Dependent on your coffee grinder you may need to break clumps manually before using this (search for WDT—Weiss Distribution Technique). Then level off slightly and place the distributor on top. Dependent on your machine / grind settings you will need to adjust the “amount” of tamping with the screw collar. Then turn round slowly, potentially *lightly* pressing, until you are flat with the collar on your portafilter. To “polish” the top, now spin the distributor quickly.
