If you are familiar with the TI-84 family of calculators then you will be right at home with this one. But here's where it shines. If you use any of the statistics functions this model has a stat wizard which shows you the fields that need to be filled and then pastes your entries into the appropriate location in the function. For example, when you select tcdf( a screen appears with lines for lower:, upper:, and df:. After entering those values, say, 1, 2, 5 you select "PASTE" and what then appears is tcdf(1,2,5). Press "ENTER" and you get the value .1306... If you are not familiar with statistics, that's okay, just know that this avoids having to look up the syntax for the function in the users guide. The calculator also has the option for mathprint, which presents fractions and radicals in a way that is visually more appealing. I used a TI-84 Plus for years, and when some of the keys started to get a little sticky I decided to try the new model. As much as I loved my old TI-84 Plus, the CE version is just great. The extra cost is well worth it. **Q: What is the battery life before needing recharged? How long to recharge?** A: I conducted a test where I left the calculator running on max brightness non-stop until it died. It took over 30 hours before the battery was completely drained. Since no one runs their calculator non stop for 30 hours straight, this equates to a month of normal use at max brightness. If you want to extend it to two months or more, be sure to keep the brightness turned down. It takes 1-2 hours to charge from a dead battery. **Q: Does it come with a cover? This is actually my second purchase because the first one disappeared, and I needed a replacement quickly. I picked the mint color because it was the cheapest option at the time and had the fastest delivery. It’s used regularly in class and does exactly what the math teachers expect, with graphing, functions, stats, and all the typical coursework without drama. The color screen is also a nice upgrade because it makes graphs and menus easier to read compared to older models. The Highlights: 🔋Battery life is excellent: It charges quickly and then seems to run forever in normal school use. 🔌Charging port: this model uses a Mini-USB (USB Mini-B, the thicker style) cable (not Micro-USB). I can’t say what TI will use on future revisions, but this one is definitely Mini-USB. 🏫Test and school acceptance: the TI-84 Plus CE is approved for the ACT, and it also appears to be permitted under SAT/PSAT calculator guidance. We did not do SAT/PSAT, so we don't have firsthand experience. 👍Pros - Reliable for daily class use (matches what teachers expect). - Great battery life; easy to recharge (note the con below). - The color screen is easier to read than older models. - The slide cover protects well and stores on the back. - Approved for ACT. 👎Cons - Uses Mini-USB, not USB-C (one more older cable to keep track of). - Expensive to replace when one inevitably “disappears”. But you can lower the cost by selecting the right color. Overall, I’m very happy with the purchase.
