One important thing is to store them vertically (standing up) so warping is minimized. They do not work like plaster bats if you trim and finish your bottoms. The vessel must be completely dry to slide off the bat like plaster bats. I suggest if you are throwing your vessels, to throw a thicker bottom so that the vessel can be cut off the wheel leaving enough clay on the foot for trimming, (cut through twice).Then you can leave the vessel to dry to leather hard for trimming.A tip: use a black permanent waterproof marker to draw concentric circles about an inch apart on the bats before you use them it is almost impossible to do it even after one use.
