Go to Pinterest app and search “How to Stain Pine” Popular Woodworking article. I followed that an the project came out very nice. The artist oil and glaze is available at Michael’s Art store. **Q: My cedar wood is soaking up my poly clear gloss and leaving dull finish. can this be used like a sealer before applying clear gloss polycryl?** A: Yes, most definitely..i add high gloss exterior on my driftwood projects. **Q: Does this help wood filler accept the stain better?** A: The answer would vary with various wood fillers. Some are more accepting than others. My favorite filler is "Timber Mate". You can get various colors from Amazon and they absorb and blend very well. And, if it dries, just add water, stir and, you're back in business! **Q: Can I use this to prepare raw poplar for a water based interior paint (Behr etc) ?** A: You could, but I doubt that it is warranted. I suggest use a primer then the interior latex paint. ## Frequently Bought Together - 1 qt Minwax 61851 Clear Pre-Stain Water-Based Wood Conditioner - qt Minwax 63333 Clear Polycrylic Water-Based Protective Finish Satin - Pro Grade, Paint Brushes, 5-Piece, Paint Brush Set: Flat & Angle Brushes for Latex and Oil Paints, Stains, Interior & Exterior Home Improvement --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.gr/products/255407035-minwax-water-based-pre-stain-wood-conditioner-618514444](https://www.desertcart.gr/products/255407035-minwax-water-based-pre-stain-wood-conditioner-618514444) --- *Product available on Desertcart Greece* *Store origin: GR* *Last updated: 2026-10-02*
