Lots of them made since 1960 have Nylon or plastic gears, and I wanted something safe. I am not a chemist, so I have no way of knowing how things will turn out after 50 years, but I trust a product that says it has been tested on specific plastics. I use it also on metal gears. What I can say is it is a first rate grease that doesn't slow down a sewing machine, even when put on sliding parts that are usually oiled, like the needle bar. It sticks well, is not messy or hard to clean up, and doesn't stain. It says it won't dry up.
