You do this by lifting the piece with the little teeth up, removing the belt, making your cut and then putting the belt back into the buckle. If you did what I think you did you can put the metal tab in the recycling. Sorry. **Q: Does this belt hold up a sherpa holster without sagging? I've found most 1.5 inch belts don't?** A: this belt does not have any internal stiffeners so I would not recommend using it as any sort of gun belt.
