Seems like it would. Or is there some type of lightning bolt protection built in?** A: The dish should be grounded with a thick (regular size house wiring typ line running from the dish pole down to a 5/8 inch 5 foot long grounding rod driven into the ground below the dish. I bought the 5 ft copper rod from Home Depot and hammered it in so 4 inches was visible above ground level and used a radiator hose clamp to attach the wire. This ground wire will direct any lightning strike to the ground, away from the house. The ground wire suffices to properly ground the dish, the pole,plus these stabilizers as a unit. If your dish is on a pole sunk into the soil, you don't need this wire. I needed these stabilizers, because I mounted my dish on the brick fireplace, not wanting holes drilled into my new roof. **Q: is it possible to order just one long brace?** A: We have some shorter 2" struts max extend length of about 22".
