Review: Great lamp for birds - So I saw some bad reviews on this and was skeptical, but upon receiving mine I was happy. It has a nice round sturdy base, it’s nice and heavy enough to hold the lamp up with ease. The neck turns super smoothly in many directions. You can also spin the plastic that covers the bulb which I think is helpful. The box says new and improved and that is is. Definitely recommend even for the price. It doesn’t come with a bulb as stated. So yo will have to purchase one. I ordered both things together and got here at the same time
Review: My desertcart LOVES his "sun" light!!!! - After reading many positives and negatives about the lamp I was on edge about purchasing it but I am 100% satisfied with it! Light any floor lamp it can be unsteady if not placed in a proper position. I have it angled just right for my desertcart and I have never seen him so happy during the winter months and If he is happy the home is happy!!!!! As we all know our feathered family can be come very loud but not my baby he is sitting pretty perched as high as he can enjoying his new lamp!!!! Great product for any bird lover!!!! I also read some reviews about how it helped their bird to not pluck which mine some times tends to do during the changes of the seasons and I have notice he has not pulled a feather out since we got his lamp!!!

**Q: The top of my bird cage is 57 inches from the floor, is the lamp tall enough to bend over the top of the cage and be 12" from the cage, as suggested?**
A: I provide info here based on  Zoo Med’s instructions for the 26 watt Zoo Med Avian Sun 5.0 UVB compact fluorescent bulb, sold separately by Zoo Med on Amazon to go with this 72-inch Zoo Med lamp. (The bulb emits UVA, UVB, and visible light.)

Zoo Med’s “Application Chart” (distance guide) for their 26 watt UV bulb:

During Burn-In:  Leave 14” to 22” from bulb to cage top (35 to 55 cm).

After Burn-In (after about 100 hours of bulb use):  Leave 12” to 18” from bulb to cage top (30 to 45 cm).

Calculated from this guide:

During UV bulb “burn-in” (the first 100 hours of bulb use, when the bulb is super-strong), the tallest cage to safely use with this 72” lamp is 58 INCHES (147 cm) from the same floor the lamp is on.  

After the burn-in period, the tallest cage for safe use is 60 INCHES (152 cm) from the floor. 

These values are for the *maximum* safe cage height. [Based on Zoo Med’s guide, slightly shorter cages might be preferable.]

**Q: will it keep my birds warm?**
A: No, this light is a full spectrum light designed to simulate sunlight. It isn't for keeping the birds warm. The light in this fixture is good. It is the design of the lamp that I have a problem with.

**Q: i put mine into the ceiling fan light is that ok to put it ijn a house fixture**
A: No Read the instructions after burn in time the light should be 18 inches from the birds perch The 2 week burn in time the light should be 20 inches from perch Please read the instructions that come with it for your birds safety

**Q: Does anyone know if you can put a heat bulb in this lamp?**
A: NO NO NO you can not. I would never even attempt to do something like that !

Wow this lamp is far better than the older model, hands down! I received mine today, very fast shipping. This newerror model is sturdy with a heavy base. It's very easy to put together and it doesn't at all feel like it's going to fall over like the previous model that I had to rig with tape and string (no joke). My African Grey immediately loved it. I moved 8 months ago and he hasnt had his light for this length of time. He's 10 now, and has had full spectrum for those 10 years. He was never a plucker and had beautiful feathers. It's taken a toll on his feathers not having his light--they lost their shine and he started plucking his legs and chest. I'm hoping this will do the trick. Major Pro to this lamp is its high enough for my tall cage so that I can put it directly above according to the recommended 12 to 18 inches. I'm very happy with it, and time will tell with his feathers and plucking situation.
