Review: Eliminated my whistling wind noise - Works great for me. Nearly fully eliminated wind noise from my newly installed crossbars and bike rack. Install was pretty easy. I ordered the 40 inch Medium size for my 2012 Hyundai Accent SE hatchback and it's the perfect length across my roof. I used it with ROLA 59707 crossbars and Thule Criterium 598 bike rack. Here's my review of those ROLA crossbars along with some other product links and information that maybe someone will find useful. I put ROLA 59707 crossbars on my 2012 Hyundai Accent SE hatchback with intentions of fitting a bike rack. I’m happy with how it all turned out. I will break this review into three parts. 1) ROLA crossbars by themselves: ROLA 59707 Hyundai Accent 5-Door Hatchback Cross Bar With no bike rack or wind fairing installed, the ROLA crossbars do have a slight wind humming sound. I am a very particular person and did not find this very bothersome. It is not a whistle, just a minimal wind hum that isn't that loud or annoying. Skip to the end for a summary of the ROLA bars themselves. 2) ROLA crossbars + Thule 598 Criterium bicycle roof rack: Thule 598 Criterium Upright Rooftop Bicycle Carrier Because of the larger size and shape of these ROLA crossbars compared to Thule crossbars, the Thule bike rack does not fit onto the crossbars with the hardware that’s included. The U-shaped clamp of the Thule bike rack is too small to fit around the crossbars. Therefore, you will have to buy the "Thule XADAPT8 X Adapter Kit" Thule XADAPT8 X Adapter 8 . This allows the Thule bike rack to be mounted within the channels that run along the top of the ROLA crossbars. It's easier than it sounds to put all this together. Just make sure you buy that adapter kit and you'll be set. As far as wind noise with the Thule bike rack installed *without* a wind fairing, it's bad. Really bad. There is an incredibly loud whistle, which is mostly fixed by putting on a wind fairing. See the next paragraph. 3) ROLA crossbars + Thule 598 Criterium bicycle roof rack + Inno Wind Faring (size medium / 40 inches): Inno Fairing This is the last thing you'll need if you're putting a Thule or other brand bike rack on these ROLA crossbars. It mostly eliminated that annoying whistle and there is mostly no wind noise coming from the roof now except for sometimes depending on the wind direction. It usually sounds just like it did before any of this was installed. It installed fairly easily and the sticker does come off. Overall, these ROLA crossbars are fantastic. Installation was extremely fast and easy. Screwing in the supplied bolts was a total breeze (not sure why some reviewers had trouble). Once installed, they feel really sturdy. I would definitely recommend them along with the other products I mentioned. EDIT #1: The Thule bike rack install on the driver’s side (after installing the Thule bike rack on the passenger’s side a few days ago) was really annoying and didn’t match the passenger side exactly in terms of looks because I am using crossbars other than Thule brand along with the XADAPT8 kit (the XADAPT8 kit converts a U-shaped bracket that comes with the Thule 598 bike rack and hugs around your crossbar into something else that slides into the top channel of the crossbar instead). On the Thule 598 bike rack, the big plastic bracket thing with the gray round knob on it would have mounted with an overhang towards the windshield, while the passenger side overhangs towards the trunk side of the crossbar. I did manage to modify the driver's side Thule 598 bike rack with some effort and ingenuity so that they did actually match (not fun at all) and both overhang towards the trunk. But regardless, this is something you should be aware of if you are required to use the XADAPT8 kit. I think even some Thule crossbars require the XADAPT8 kit, so just because you have Thule brand crossbars, don’t think you’re in the clear. IN SUMMARY OF THIS ISSUE: If you are lucky enough to just have square Thule crossbars, you can have two bike racks installed and it appears to me that they will match perfectly with no modifications. If you use the XADAPT8 kit, having two Thule 598 Criterium bike racks mounted will not perfectly match each other unless you permanently modify one of the racks, or another option would be to mount one bike rack facing the back of the car. But that also doesn’t match and doesn’t really solve anything. EDIT #2: My whole setup does have a very faint whistle depending on what the wind is doing. I will try some things to totally eliminate it, but at this point it is pretty dang quiet and for some reason doesn’t always occur and is intermittent depending on how you’re driving and what the wind is doing. The fairing did help immensely though, but unfortunately didn’t 100% fix the whistle/wind noise.
Review: Well made. Saves gas. Has inherent flaws. - Well, I've had this for about year. It's seen about 30k miles, and approximately 1 million splattered bugs. I have it on a '24 Impreza RS. It's a pain to clean as it's not totally rigid, and you really got scrub to get it clean. I usually wax and buff it to keep it shiny. The decal has held up, and the hardware shows zero rust or corrosion. I give it a half turn tighten ever couple weeks. Interesting notes, as I drive 100 freeway miles a day. Gas mileage stock ~27mpg. Gas mileage with cross bars ~25.5. With this faring ~26.5. With crossbars and a roof basket ~23.5. With crossbars, faring and roof basket ~24.5. So, it saves approximately 1mpg. That's pretty good actually, and will pay for itself at some point. Wind noise with just crossbars compared to crossbars and the faring isnt much different. But with the basket on, it's considerable. It takes some adjusting to get this faring to line up with the built-in faring on my Tyger basket. But once you get it dialed in, it's a totally noticeable difference. Now, rattle...an entirely different story. My factory system has 7x10 subwoofers in the doors. They thump. This thing rattles from bass. No matter how tight it is. I have to keep my sunshade on my sunroof closed to block some of the noise. Kind of sucks. If you have the roof open in summer, and your music half way up the rattle will drown out the music. You literally have to crank up the radio to drown out the rattle. To sum it up~ It's well made. Looks sharp. Easy to install. Hard to keep clean. Saves gas. Rattles.

**Q: I have 42" between my crossbars. Should I get the 40" or 48" wind fairing?**

A: Yes. I have mine of an aftermarket crossbars that is rounded and thick and it fits just perfectly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really cuts wind noise.
*by D***. on September 2, 2024*

I drove my car with a rooftop box on it, and no deflector and immediately heard wind noise, despite all the windows being up even at 35 miles an hour. First of all, it was easy to install. I left my car top box in place although they recommend not doing that. I simply had to slip the middle bracket underneath after loosening the box. The left and right brackets fit just outside my box mounts on the bar. Be sure to measure where your attachments to the bars are and check the width of the bracket locations for the deflector that you are ordering so you know there’s no interference with the brackets. I think in a pinch you might get away with moving the deflector left or right as I don’t know how important it is that be perfectly centered, as long as it still covers your rooftop stuff end to end. . The bracket attachments holes in the deflector are fixed in place so if you decide to move the deflector left or right, you have to move all three brackets equally. I ordered the 48 inch for my 2013 Subaru Legacy sedan because I wanted to deflector to go most of the way across the roof bars to get Maximum result. The ends of the deflector sit just where the roof seam is where it curves down to the door. After installing it, I found all four pads sit touching on the roof. On the road, I noticed an immediate reduction in wind noise. I drove up to 70 miles an hour, and I found whatever wind noise was left was tolerable and certainly could be covered up by a little bit of music. I’ll find out on my 10 hour trip this week to the beach and report back. I can’t figure how anybody could install this and have it create more noise. The noise reduction for me was substantial.
