We're required to fly a diver-down flag here.** A: Mike;I wouldn't 'poke a hole' through anything, but you could use plastic wire-ties to secure a dive flag onto the handle, if required. We reasoned that the actual "High Visibility Yellow Raft" is more visually noticeable than a dive flag. Plus your body is not semi-submerged as when someone snorkels with conventional equipment.Besides dive flags are not required for rafting, as far as we have been able to determine. Hope this helps.
