Review: Photocell works perfect for controlling 12VDC powered LEDs! - I purchased this to control an outside arbor that has LED lights in its leg posts. The arbor came with a wall-wart transformer that provides 12VDC to the LEDs. This photocell works perfectly! For my installation I drilled a hole in my wall next to where TV cables come in, plugged in the wall-wart inside the house and ran the 12VDC wire through the wall. I cut the 12VDC wire from the transformer on the outside of the house and connected this photocell per the instructions below. I mounted the photocell to the wall next to where the wire came through. I was shocked at the delivery time estimate, but I received the item in one week. I ordered it on June 10, 2014, and the delivery estimate was for July 7-23, but I actually received it on June 17 (in California). There was a question posted here in the reviews that asked about how to wire this thing up as no instructions came with it, and the wiring information I needed was posted in response to that question. I can’t address any other installations, but for the 12VDC power I was using this is what worked: Red wire from the photocell connects to the positive lead going to my LED lights. Black wire from the photocell connects to the positive lead coming off my 12VDC wall-wart transformer. White wire from the photo cell connects to the negative lead going to my LED lights, and also to the negative lead coming from my wall-wart. EDIT: Sometime a few months ago (late 2015, early 2016, I wasn't really paying attention) this stopped working, so it lasted a year and a half or so. I could hear a clicking noise and it seemed it was trying to engage but wouldn't hold. This is outside, but we don't get much rain, but it is in the elements, if that had anything to do with it. For the price I would probably order another one.
Review: Useful; good value - Cheap and it works great for controlling my outdoor LED lighting. I wouldn't expect it to last very long if exposed to direct rain. The circuit board inside has no protection against water or corrosion. The wires are also too short to really do anything with, so I had to solder and shrink wrap longer wires onto them.

## Features

- To turn on or off the light in day and night without manual operation on or off the light in day and night without manual operation

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the correct wiring/connections for the 12vDC from a battery to a light? What gets connected to LOAD (Red), NEUT (White) and LINE (Black)?**
A: Positive side of the light you're controling goes to red wire, (negative side of light goes to battery negative or ground)Black wire goes to positive 12v terminal of battery.White wire goes to negative 12v battery terminal or ground.

**Q: I want to control a 12Vdc pump in daylight. Can I reverse the electrical wiring from the sensor? or do I need a switch in-between**
A: Connect your battery/source ground to the pump ground, relay pin 85, and the white photocell wire. Connect your battery/source positive to an appropriately sized fuse holder, and from the fuse to relay pin 30 and the black photocell wire. Connect the photocell red wire to relay pin 86. Last, be ready for the pump to come on and possibly a slight spark as you connect the pump positive to relay pin 87a. (Or do this at nighttime, LOL.) Daytime operation: photocell puts out no voltage on red wire, relay stays closed and pin 30 feeds voltage to the pump on pin 87a. Nighttime operation: photocell puts out voltage on red wire, opening relay and disconnecting pin 87a from pin 30. (And connecting pin 87 to pin 30 -- not used here but including for clarification.) With relays being made more cheaply these days, I wouldn't recommend this for a pump continually drawing more than 15 or 20 amps.

**Q: Is there any way the light sensitivity can be adjusted?**
A: The only way that I know of to adjust the on and off sensitivity would be in placement of the sensor, by pointing in the direction of sunrise then they would possibly go off quicker, otherwise I have not seen any adjustments. Hope this helps.

**Q: Can this do lower voltages? Say 3.7v or 5v?**
A: To reduce 12v to 5v you need a circuit known as DC-to-DC step-down converter.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect switch replacement for Dusk to Dawn sensor switches.
*by M***. on December 31, 2015*

AC DC 12V 10A Auto On Off Photocell Light Switch Photoswitch Light Sensor Switch I couldn't find a good Dusk to Dawn switch in the low voltage range at any of the local big box stores and I'll include the smaller stores as well. I needed to setup 2 different dusk to dawn sensors on my LED exterior home lights. This unit did the job very nicely. Here in Louisiana we have that 99% humidity for days on end that tend to get into anything that is not sealed and even then you can collect water from your cars floorboards if you don't open it up. The plastic cover has a drain hole and is not sealed so it actually allows any standing water to drain. Now, this is not water proof and you shouldn't expect it to last in rain splash zones. It works under the soffits (eves) of the house just fine. Placing two units on my DC lighting allows more charge time for the system in that the east side of the house shuts off prior to the west in the mornings. I do recommend this on off photocell for all your light amperage projects. If you need more amps I would suggest using an external relay. Update: Our Photocell switch ended up underwater for 58 hours during the flood of 2016 here in Denham Springs LA. Even with water inside the unit, mud and river silt it stayed on for another week. I order 2 replacements and have them mounted well above flood stage now. The Cajun Navy working nights saw our LEDs on during the high water period. Only house in the area with exterior lights that work both under water and above water.
