Review: The best alarm clock ever. - This, I love. I bought it to get me through the dark winter mornings as I was so tired of being wrenched into wakefulness by my phone alarm. I decided to start going to gym early in the morning and knew the first hurdle would just be waking up. I did a bit of research into which one of these was the best value, and to be honest, what sold me were two things: one, this replicates the slow rise of the sun (I am a total sucker for a sunset / sunrise) so this was a big win for me and two: the bird song. I love it. It is the perfect way to ease you into wakefulness, regardless of the hour. And when you are getting up at 5am that's a big plus. Set up was fairly easy, I got it to work first time, so I figured it can't be that difficult. I don't use the radio option so can't comment on that... Now, every morning I don't wake up at a sparrow's fart, I wake up to a sparrow's toot. Much happiness all around.

I almost didn't buy this because of all the reviews saying you need to remember to turn the alarm on every day. This isn't true at all. There is a "light" button, so when your sunrise starts, if you want to turn off the sunrise, just press the light button. Similarly, if you have sound programmed in, you press the play/pause button or I think FM radio button, and then it turns off the sound. The alarm stays on. It says this in the instructions, which I suggest you spend 3 minutes of your day reading to understand it all! That being said, the clock is fantastic. I bought it for £110 as an opened box return. I love that it starts with an extremely low, deep red light and gets very bright. I had returned another sunrise alarm because the light started so bright that I woke up as if someone was flicking the light switch on in our bedroom. I love that the display auto-dims, and it goes incredibly low. It doesn't light up the room. I also thought that the unit was shiny, the front face, but it's matt. Very nice. The functions are great and having 2 different alarms to flick between dependent on the day or your mood is perfect too. Wholly recommended.

**Q: Can you switch the time display completely off at night even with the alarm set?**
A: Bit of a slow reply here :) The clock reacts to light in the room, when its dark the clock display dims down very low.I made a little video, not the best quality but you get the idea: https://vimeo.com/114468231

**Q: Can you use it without sound, only with light? Thanks.**
A: The sound comes in quietly at the time you set the alarm for but the light starts half an hour earlier changing from a deep orange glow up to a nice natural summer yellow. The sounds aren't very loud and I find the quiet bird chirping sounds almost like there's a bird outside the window. But if you prefer not to have sounds at all there are other Philips light alarm clocks without sound, or if you just don't want sound occasionally you can always switch it to radio and turn the sound down.

**Q: Bulb Replacement? Any issues with longevity? 
Has anyone had any bulb issues with this device? I'm worried that after a while the bulb will go and render a £100+ device useless, well apart from being a radio.
I am aware that the bulb cannot be replaced.
Also what warranty do Philips provide and is it covered by the …**
A: My daughter has had this light for 4 or 5 years and the lamp has just failed.... Very disappointingly there is no way to replace so either you use it as a clock / radio or you buy again for the wake up light functionality.... I get the answer about LEDs being the normal but you must be able to replace the light (that's the main selling point) for £10, £15 or £20 when the whole thing will set you back over £100.

**Q: Can you please tell me if it is 110 - 220 v? I need it to work in the United States. Thank you for your help.**
A: From the user manual, page 5: "The adapter transforms 100-240 volts to a safe low voltage of less than 24 volts."I unplugged the adapter to look at it and it has 100-240 volts stamped on it.  From that, I conclude it should work.

Genuinely changed the game for my wake up routine (especially during the winter months). Makes waking up much softer and has great sounds. The sunset function is also something I underestimated but ended up using a lot!
