A: Hello, because the flame does not directly touch the wood of the tripod, the flame will not cause the wood to burn. Most wild survival activities use wood to build a tripod, so there is no need to worry about burning wood. Thank you for your question.

**Q: So how is this better than using a scrap of bailing wire?**
A: It works and has the chain and hook for hanging a pot or lantern etc.  You supply the wood/ sticks limbs and works fine, if bailing wire is your thing, that can work too, I'll stick with this, to each their own ...

A: It says 0.17 kg, which is just over 6 oz.
