If you said that’s why I’m looking, these are for you.I never tie them and there is no slipping, sliding or blisters with the cushion design around the foot and ankle. Instantly comfortable with zero break in period. The North Face made a shockingly good insert which keeps my arches supported and prevents foot fatigue.Barefoot, cotton, wool or any synthetic socks work well with these. Should you choose barefoot, the heel seam can rub just a touch, but that’s the price you pay when you’re too lazy and just slide your feet in to take puppy for a potty walk in the icy snow.Through sand, gravel, concrete, ice, rain, snow and general outdoorsy questionable muck, these have stayed dry, kept my piggies toasty and rinsed off nicely by walking in a puddle or wet grass. Excellent grip on all surfaces (except maybe black ice).I loved them so much, I bought a pair for my mom so she too could hike in comfort. If I had anything negative, it would be the material on the dark brown pair below the leather and above the rubber can collect snow hindering the warmth they generally provide. The pair on the left have waterproof leather down to the rubber foot which prevents this problem.Excellent for fall and winter hiking/walking in New England. I was looking at several other brands of boots and settled on these. They were comfortable right out of the box! In fact, these are some of the more comfortable shoes I've owned. It has not been super cold here, yet, but they kept my feet quite warm. I've been on hour long walks in 30ish degree weather with a few inches of snow and they were awesome. I'm eager to try them in serious snow.I love that they use some recycled materials to make the boots. Honestly, this helped sway me in my purchase decision. I've not really owned much The North Face stuff, as it seemed too trendy and expensive. But, these boots are making me want to buy more of their products. I'm seriously making my next pair of sneakers The North face.I followed others' advice and ordered a half size up. I bought a 7.5 which is my regular shoe size and these boots fit true to size. If you are wide width or plan on wearing super thick socks I'd go up at least a half size to give a little more space. But they're so warm I think thermal socks will roast your feet. They look just like the picture and come with grey and red laces. They are a little heavy but bend well at the ankle and are very cushy with each step. The tread is super gripy which I hope will help on icy days.
