They lie. Most companies are smart enough to NEVER say you can put a knife in a dishwasher. So, NEVER, EVER. Stainless steel used for knives is not the same stainless steel used for your dinner ware. Even if it takes a long time to rust, running a knife through a dishwasher affects the edge. It will make it dull over time and you'll be sharpening it more often. But eventually it WILL get ruined with spots or rust if you run knives through the dishwasher. I think they were made of some sort of plastic. I dont ever put my knives in the dishwasher. Always wash them by hand and allow them to dry but with the Chicago Cutlery knives it didnt matter. Handles started disintegrating and the blades loosened up and fell out.
