## Overview

The Cretacolor Aqua Monolith set features 12 woodless, water-soluble colored pencils with highly pigmented leads that can be used dry or wet. Encased in a sleek tin box, these pencils offer versatile artistic techniques from fine lines to broad washes, making them ideal for professional and aspiring artists seeking vibrant, blendable color in a portable format.

## Description

These highly pigmented, woodless colored pencils have the added advantage of being water-soluble. They impart rich colors and soft strokes in brilliant shades. Each pencil consists of in diameter of pure colored lead without any wooden casing. They are easily sharpened and can be used dry or wet by submerging the pencils into water and drawing directly onto paper, brushing dry strokes with water, or picking up pigment from the point of the pencil with a wet brush.

Review: These are wonderful to look at, great to use and lovely quality - I don't live in the US so I worried so much about having these shipped to me and ending up with them all broken. The promise of these pencils overcame my fear and I took the plunge and ordered them. When I got the tin it was quite a bit heavier than any pencils I have ever ordered in tins. The tin is quite solid and packed inside a cardboard sleeve with product info on it. The trays also are sealed in branded wrapping and there is padding between the trays so all my fears were for nothing. None were cracked or broken. Only one tip looked like a small piece came off - nothing of significance. The pencils themselves are just so beautiful I want to stare at them all the time. They feel drier when applied to paper like a Tombow coloured pencil. The colour applies easily though. There is a soft transparency about them but they are still as vivid as my Mitsubishi Uni artist-grade watercolour pencils (Uni's are for me just as good or better than Albrecht Durer pencils only difference is that Uni's are a Japanese brand). I love how many mixed colours there are. I know many people advocate for pure bright pigments with watercolour products but I find mixed colours also very useful. I will use these for illustration and hand-drawn animation so it is very useful to have mixtures and variations in colours. The pencil line melts away when wet with very little water but just a mild texture of the line stays behind. I think on varying paper you can get it very smooth. I worried most about this. Many said that the colour is mild and the line stays even after water is applied. They aren't as bold as Inktense pencils but they definitely have many subtle as well as vibrant colours to go around. With a good brush on good paper the colour will release very well. I tested them out on cheap sketchbook paper and was pleased with them. Just got them from the mail so we will see how they fare. The whole product and packaging feel high quality. Try them out if you want more detail and control but like the watercolour look.

*by M***M on February 10, 2022*

I love these pencils! I put them directly into a case and only have broken a few but they can still be used completely. Gorgeous colors, and the first time you or anyone else discovers their magic is enjoyable! So many ways to color with these.
