valuable training development insights
I’ve been designing training for decades and thought I knew it all but this book caught my attention so I gave it a chance and I’m so glad that I did.Whether you are a beginner, an expert, or someone in between you will find lots of tips, reminders, and insights. Highly recommended!

Great introduction to learning design!
This book offered an excellent discussion of how people learn and the best methods and considerations for designing learning experiences to promote learner success. I have been in field applications roles for several years and I'm shocked at how much of this information was news to me (...and very sorry to my previous trainees for all the ways in which I now see that my earlier courses were lacking). This was a great read and I strongly recommend it to anyone who is sincerely interested in designing better trainings!

A fantastic book for new and experienced learning professionals!
I think this might be the best book I've ever read that is related to the learning and development industry. Julie deconstructs complex concepts and ideas in relatable and easily understandable ways. I recommend this work for all my clients developing their L&D or Training Depts. It's easy to read and reference and has a wealth of information derived from more recent research. I find the lack of "clinical" or "academic" language refreshing and even enjoyable.

Great book. Good ideas to think of. Could benefit from strategies
Great book! I'm very critical of instructional design. This book really wants to help you make your courses better. Author shows you what to think of when planning and creating your coruse so that your students actually learn. The only con is that the material is more conceptual which is still helpful, but could've been extended with real strategies. For example the author will say that your students have a gap and you need to fill that gap and think of how your content will fill the gap before creating your content, but what the author doesn't give is strategies on how to develop to fill the gap. How do you fill the gap? How do you really know what the gap is?Overall, this will get you thinking and coming up with a course that will be better than what you would've created and most likely better than the crappy courses out there!

Beware of Trick Rentals!
This is a fantastic book! I first listened to it on Audible and then later decided I wanted a physical copy. However, you have to watch out to make sure you are really buying the book and not renting. I do not remember ANY indication whatsoever that I was renting not buying when I purchased this book. If you accidentally rent, later you have to pay even more to keep the book you thought you bought! It was expensive for a used book, too. I thought I was buying from Amazon (I always use Amazon Prime) but the seller was RentU. I'll be more careful when clicking "Buy Now" in the future. If I want to borrow, I can go to the library for free instead of paying over $30!

Insightful
This book offers so much insight into the world of instructional design. I'm using it as I upskill to transition out of education and the examples given plus the knowledge shared by an expert make this one of the best resources I've found.

Possibly the best informational book I've ever read
The writer is funny and engaging throughout. She kept giving mental models for how to approach situations in learning as well as other references. I read the book very slowly as I am also building a learning game for my team. Every new insight she gave I immediately went to implement that in my game.

Good for beginners
This book is good for those starting out in the field of training or teaching, but not well suited for experienced professionals.
