## Description

The FST2 tool straightens commonplace 16, 18, 20, or 22 fins per inch. The tool features one-piece adjustable combs. The resilient nylon comb material will not damage the soft aluminum fins of condenser or evaporator units. Malco fin tools function by either pushing or pulling and efficiently straighten fins in tight quarters or where multiple passes over bent fins are required. Comfortable offset handles provide a sure grip and protect knuckles from scraping.

Review: Failed to work as hoped, plastic comb needs to be made of tougher material - Tool suffers from plastic combs that don't hold up when used to straighten bent fins. The combs are made of soft plastic, so as not to damage the fins I suppose, but when you slide the comb over a badly bent fin, the fin cuts into the plastic and leaves a little shaving behind. This shaving shard gets between the blades and then spreads the comb's teeth unevenly, leading to difficulty getting the comb to go over the next set of fins properly. I had such trouble with this item, unless perfectly aligned it will smash some fins in the process, defeating its very purpose. I think if the comb was made of harder plastic it might be a usable tool, but as it is, it's just frustrating as hell. I went back to using a small screwdriver and (patiently) used it to separate my bent AC condensor coil fins.

**Q: Are the combs metal on this model? FST2**
A: The combs are plastic, and pretty tough. I have put one of the combs through about 30 hours of tough work, about 100 square feet of coil area, and the comb is still in very good shape.  Repairing closed-off fins can be slow and difficult, but brings new life into those expensive condensing units.

**Q: The description for this malco fst2 fin straightening tool says it's for 16, 18, 20 or 22 fins per inch. does that work for a window air conditioner?**
A: I'm afraid I do not have a real answer.  Mine did not work for my car's AC condensor, the fins were too far apart for the tool even at the 16 setting.
Measure the # of fins per inch is my best guess.

**Q: what setting is good for home AC units?**
A: It has four different sizes. I use it on my window units. It can be difficult to use but it does work. Not sure if it will fit a home unit but it should.

It works. The comb is made of plastic and the end teeth tend to bend with repeated use. Instead of perfectly sized gaps, this will cause a wider gap. A metal alloy would be better and stronger than plastic.
