We used it when going on the paddleboard and when he fell off in drop water was able to swim and float easily. We were also able to use the nice handles to pull him back on. We got small for our short but stocky 23 lb. mutt who has a long short body shape like a corgi, but short hair. We had tried a different brand on him first but the stomach of the other one covered his boy part, we were worried about chaffing, this one did not, it was perfect. We got medium for our 50 lb. Catahoula, who is the size of a cow dog or smaller Lab. Neither dog seemed to mind wearing them. They feel and look high quality so I think they will last a long time. Important features are the hole for the leash to come through on back of neck and the handle on the back. The handle was very important as we were able to hold on to them as we crossed strong currents in the river or came to parts that were too deep for them. We could grab them to keep them safe. Look forward to getting the dogs in the water more often.

**Q: Do the belly flaps have velcro and straps or just straps?**
A: Just straps.  There is no velcro that would irritate your dog.

**Q: Are there floatation panels under the belly?**
A: Elizabeth.. There are not panels under the belly.  However, the side panels are quite long so the amount of underside that is not supported is minimal.  All of the red portion that you see in the photo has floatation.  I hope this helps.  - Brian

**Q: Would a Large be big enough for a 85lb Golden?**
A: I would think so, but you really should measure his/her girth. I first ordered the medium for a 64 pound dog. The front strap was too short, but otherwise the jacket would have fit fine. The dogs girth was the top of the medium range, so we think the short strap was a manufacturing issue. So then we ordered a large. The large fit, but seemed big. We had to cinch the straps a lot. Unfortunately it fell apart just trying it on in the house so we never used it and just returned that one, too. But I would think it would fit a dog 20 pounds more than my dog. If you don't have a soft tape measure, wrap a leash or rope around the dog's girth and measure that.

**Q: Has anyone compared to ruffwear life coat?  it looks similar to that pfd but with an extra handle in the rear**
A: Yes.  With the extra handle it is a bit longer along the back, helping senior dogs feel more secure in the water.  The two handles provide the human more ease in moving a dog in and out of the water.

We really like this life jacket. It’s easy to put on and take off and we love the handle on top. It’s easy to adjust the size. It makes it easy to grab a hold of the puppy when we are in the boat. We looked at a lot of life jackets and this is the one we are sold on. Very good quality and the puppy doesn’t mind wearing it at all.
